Our Story
How this practice came to be.
Leadership did not become difficult because capability disappeared. It became difficult because the work changed.
After more than fifteen years working across clinical medicine, public health, research, and healthcare leadership, one pattern became impossible to ignore.
Exceptional clinicians were repeatedly being promoted into leadership roles without being prepared for the responsibilities that followed.
They were expected to influence rather than direct. To develop people rather than simply perform. To navigate conflict, complexity, uncertainty, and organizational change.
Most had never been taught how.
The struggle was rarely intelligence. It was rarely motivation. It was almost never commitment.
It was preparation.
Ubuntu Doctor Coaching was founded to help close that leadership gap.

Dr. Nondumiso Makhunga-Stevenson is a South African medical practitioner, executive coach, healthcare leader, speaker, and founder of Ubuntu Doctor Coaching.
Her career spans clinical medicine, public health, clinical research, pharmaceutical leadership, and executive healthcare management across Africa and the United States.
Today she works with physicians, healthcare professionals, healthcare organizations, and healthcare coaches to strengthen leadership capability through concierge executive coaching, leadership development, mentor coaching, and evidence-informed education.
Her work integrates coaching science, healthcare leadership, and Ubuntu-informed practice to help healthcare leaders build sustainable careers while strengthening the people and organizations they lead.
